Lance Cpl. Fred L. Maciel, 20, of Spring, Texas. Maciel died when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Ar Rutbah,Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Died on January 26, 2005.

Lance Cpl. Cesar F. Machado-Olmos, 20, of Spanish Fork, Utah, died September 13, 2004 due to a non-combat related vehicle accident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Machado-Olmos was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Vorn J. Mack, 19, Orangeburg SC August 23, 2003.  A private first class drowns after jumping into the Euphrates River to take a swim.

Seaman Apprentice Robert D. Macrum 22, Assigned to the USS Princeton Sugarland, Texas. Presumed lost at sea. He was last seen the evening of September 12 while the ship was underway. Macrum was assigned to the USS Princeton, currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf conducting maritime security operations as part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.

Lance Cpl. Joseph B. Maglione 22, Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Force Service Support Group Lansdale, Pennsylvania Killed by a non-combat weapon discharge at Camp Coyote, Kuwait, on April 1, 2003.

Master Sgt. Patrick D. Magnani, 38, of Martinez, Calif., died on September 4, 2007.  He was assigned to the 31st Medical Support Squadron at Aviano.   An airman deployed to Afghanistan from Aviano Air Base, Italy, died Wednesday near Bagram as a result of a gunshot wound, Defense Department officials announced.

Jarrod L. Maher 21, Company L, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Imogene, Iowa Died due to a non-hostile gunshot wound at Abu Ghraib, Iraq, on November 12, 2004.

Lance Cpl. Patrick A. Malone, 21, of Ocala, Fla., died March 10, 2009 as a result of a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.  The incident is currently under investigation.  ...a gun shot wound to the head, in a non-combat situation.  Fratricide by a fellow Marine who was playing the “Game of Trust.”

DT3 Paul R. Mamby, found hanging off base on March 16, 1990.  He had been stationed at Paris Island Naval Base in South Carolina.  The family contests the cause of death on the basis of insufficient investigation.

Sgt. 1st Class Curtis Mancini, 43, of  Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died on Jan. 29, 2004; explosion at weapons cache west of Ghazni, Afghanistan.

1st Lt. Jason D. Mann, 29, of Woodlynne, N.J., died July 17, 2008 from a accident — roof collapse in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 24th Marine
Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Chief Warrant Officer Ian D. Manuel, 23, of Florida. Manuel was assigned to the 571st Medical Company (Air Ambulance), Fort Carson, Colorado. A UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed on January 8 2004 while on a MEDEVAC mission in Fallujah, Iraq. Nine soldiers were killed in the incident.

Pfc. Pablo Manzano 19, Company B, 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, V Corps Heber, California Died of a non-hostile gunshot wound in Logistical Support Area Dogwood, Iraq, on August 25, 2003. A private first class is killed by a gunshot wound to the chest in a non-combat incident. [Pablo Manzano, 19, Heber CA]

Chaplain (Col.) Sidney J. Marceaux Jr., 69, of Beaumont, Texas, died Sept 14, 2008 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., from a non-combat related illness.  Following evacuation from Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, he was assigned to the Warrior Transition Brigade, Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Cpl. Matthieu Marcellus, 31, of Gainesville, Fla. WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2006 The Defense Department announced the names of eight Marines and two airmen killed in a Feb. 17, 2006 helicopter crash while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. All 10 died when two CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters crashed into the Gulf of Aden near Ras Siyyan, northern Djibouti, while flying a training mission in the Godoria Range area, officials reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Pfc. Miguel A. Marcial III, 19, of Secaucus, N.J., died April 1 in Al Anbar province, Iraq. His death is
currently under investigation.  Marcial was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Pfc. Lyndon A. Marcus, Jr., 21, of Long Beach, California. Four members of the 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany, died May 3, 2004 in Balad, Iraq, when their military vehicle left the road and flipped over in a canal.

Spc. Jeremy E. Maresh, 24, of Jim Thorpe, Pa., died Apr. 24, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, from a non-combat related incident. His death is under investigation.  Maresh was assigned to C Battery, 1st Battalion, 213th Air Defense Artillery, Spring City, Pa.  He died from an apparent suicide,” Lt. Col. Chris Cleaver, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania National Guard, said Thursday. Cleaver said the Army was investigating, and military officials would not release details.  Update:  apparent suicide.

Pvt. Giovanny Maria 19, Company A, 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division Camden, New Jersey.  Died of a non-hostile gunshot wound in Uzbekistan on November 29, 2001.

Master Sgt. Jude C. Mariano, 39, of Vallejo, California, died February 10, 2004, in Doha, Qatar, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Mariano was assigned to the 615th Air Mobility
Operations Squadron, Travis Air Force Base, California.

Army Sgt. Javier Marin, Jr., 29, of Mission, Texas.  Marin died in Mohammed Sacran, Iraq, when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle overturned. He was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 2d Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany. Died on January 24, 2005.

Lt. Col. Ralph J. Marino, 46, of Houston, Pa., died September 14, 2008 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, from a non-combat related illness.  He was assigned to U.S. Army Central Command, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Chief Warrant Officer Keith R. Mariotti, 39, of Texas.  Mariotti died near Taji, Iraq, when his AH-64D Apache helicopter crashed. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on June 27, 2005.

Reisom Markose, Two days later, (8/9/05) Colorado Springs, a police officer found Reisom Markose, 25, dead of an intentional overdose of bupropion, an antidepressant.  Markose served in Iraq with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and recently had become a U.S.citizen.

Master Sgt. Michael Maltz, 42, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died on March 23, 2003; helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Maj. Robert J. Marchanti II, 48, of Baltimore, Md., died Feb. 25, in Kabul, Afghanistan.  Marchanti was assigned to 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Division Security Partnering Team of the Maryland Army National Guard, Baltimore, Md.  He was shot and killed “execution-style” in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Kevin M. Marsh, 41, of Friedens, Pennsylvania, was found dead in his barracks room at Ft. Hood on January 1, 2009.

Hospitalman Robert N. Martens, 20, of Queen Creek, Arizona. Martens died from injuries sustained as a passenger when his HMMWV rolled over in Al Qaim, Iraq. He was assigned to II Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Died on September 6, 2005.

Staff Sgt. Jack M. Martin III, 26, of Bethany, Okla. died Sept. 29, 2009 in Jolo Island, the Philippines, from the detonation of an improvised-explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Wash. and was on a non-combat mission.  The incident is under investigation.

Pvt. 1 Francisco Martinez-Flores, 21,  drowned on March 24, 2003 when an Abrams tank plunged off a bridge into the Euphrates River on the west side of Nasiriyah, iraq.  He was assigned to 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, CA.

Maj. Michael R. Martinez, 43, of Missouri. Martinez was assigned to the Army’s 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo. died near Tal Afar, Iraq, on Jan. 7, 2006 when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed.

Spc. Victor A. Martinez, 21, from Bronx, New York, died December 14, 2004 south of Baghdad, Iraq, from a gunshot wound.  Martinez was assigned to the 364th Supply Company, 264th Corps Support Battalion, 1st Corps Support Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Capt. Michael D. Martino, 32, of Fairfax, Virginia.  Martino died when his AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter crashed while flying in support of security and stabilization operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq. He was with the Marine Light-Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II MEF (Forward). Died on November 2, 2005.

Staff Sgt. Ryan D. Maseth, 24, of Pittsburgh, Pa., died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Jan. 2, 2008 of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Ky.  The incident is under investigation.   According to the family, he was electrocuted while in the shower.

Sgt. Anthony L. Mason, 37, of Springtown, Texas, who was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation, 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, Texas Army National Guard, Grand Prairie, Texas died Sept. 18, 2008 when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter he was in went down in the vicinity of Tallil, Iraq. The incident is under investigation.

Sgt. Radhames Camilo Matos 24, Company A, 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division Carolina, Puerto Rico Died of non-combat related injuries in Taji, Iraq, on January 7, 2006.

Master Sgt. Edwin A. Matoscolon, 42, of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico.  Matoscolon died in Ghazni, Afghanistan, when the CH-47 helicopter he was on crashed. He was assigned to Division Artillery, 25th
Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Spc. Clint Richard Matthews, 31, of Bedford, Pennsylvania, died March 19, 2004 in Baji, Iraq, from injuries sustained when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle went over a 60-foot embankment and flipped over on March 17. He was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, from Schweinfurt, Germany.

Pvt. John A. Mattox, 23, of Daingerfield, Texas, died Aug. 10, 2008 at Forward Operating Base Bostick, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.  The incident is under investigation.

Staff Sergeant Donald May, 31, of Richmond, Virginia,  drowned on March 24, 2003 when an Abrams tank plunged off a bridge into the Euphrates River on the west side of Nasiriyah, iraq.  He was

Pfc. Jordan May, 26, died in his sleep on December 20, 2008 while on leave days before his unit was set to deploy to Iraq.  Ft. Hood, TX.

Pfc. Patrick W. May, 22, of Jamestown, N.Y., died Sept. 2, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the Division Special Troops
Battalion, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.  The incident is under nvestigation.

Master Sgt. Danny E. Maybin, 47, of Columbia, S.C, died Aug. 7, 2008 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, as the result of a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Forces Command,
Fort McPherson, Ga.   The incident is under investigation.

Petty Officer First Class Alec Mazur, 35, of Vernon, New York.  Mazur died in a non-combat related incident in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility. He was assigned to Underwater
Construction Team One (UCT-1), under operational control of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command. March 9, 2005.

Pvt. Anthony M. Mazzarella, 22, of Blue Springs, Missouri, died July 5, 2005 in Taji, Iraq, when the HMMWV in which he was riding accidentally rolled over.  Mazzarella was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Spc. Morganne M. McBeth, 19, of Fredricksburg, Va., died July 2, 2010 in Al Asad, Iraq, of stabbing in Khan Al Baghdadi, Iraq. She was assigned to the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat
Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sgt. Guy Jacob McBroom, 27, from Astoria, Ore. died at Ft. Hood TX in April 2012. He entered active-duty service in January 2006 as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle system maintainer.  Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.

Spc. Patrick McCaffery, 34, of Tracy, California was killed by Iraqi army recruits with whom he was training and patrolling.  Friendly fire.  He was assigned to the 579th Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard, Petaluma, California and was killed near Balad, Iraq.

Spc. Christopher D. McCarthy, of Virginia Beach, Va., died 1 June 2008 at Forward Operating Base Ramadi, Iraq.   He was found dead in his barracks.  His death is under investigation. He was assigned to the U.S. Joint Forces Command, Joint Reserve Unit, Norfolk, Va.

Pvt. James F. McClamrock, 22, of Huntersville, N.C. died Sept. 7, 2010 at Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered in a shooting incident in Salah ad-Din province. This incident is under investigation.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Sgt. Michael M. McCloskey of Beverly, N.J., 26, shot himself in a game of Russian roulette on March 6, 2011 at the home of fellow soldier Jacob Brouch, who is charged with second-degree murder and weapons misconduct.  McCloskey had completed two tours of duty in Iraq, the last in November 2009.  He joined the Army in August 2002. He served at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Bragg, N.C., before arriving in Alaska in March 2010, where he served as a construction equipment operator and construction engineer with the 84th Engineer Company, 6th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.

Cpt. Daniel G. McCollum, 29, of Richland, S.C., died on Jan. 9, 2002; plane crash in Pakistan.

Pvt. Sean P. McCune, 20, of Euless, Texas, died Jan. 11, 2009 in Samarra, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  His death was determined to be the result of involuntary manslaughter by another soldier.

Master Sgt. William L. McDaniel, 29, of Greenville, Ohio, died on Feb. 21, 2002; Philippines helicopter crash.

Sgt. Edmund W. McDonald, 25, of Casco, Maine. The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died March 29 in North Kabul, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered during a non-combat related vehicle accident on March 28 in North Kabul.  Both soldiers were assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C

Capt. Mark R. McDowell, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colo. died July 17, 2009 in a F-15E crash near Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 336th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air  Force Base, N.C.

Sgt. James “Mac” McElroy, 30, of Petal, MS, died June 6, 2011 at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Sgt. McElroy recently returned from his third tour in Afghanistan, serving with the Mississippi National Guard. He also served in Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps and in Iraq with the Mississippi National Guard.  He was found dead in his barracks of suspected polypharmacy from prescription drugs.

Chief Warrant Officer Jackie L. McFarlane Jr, 30, Virginia Beach, Va. The Department of Defense announced today the death of five soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Aug. 14, 2007 in Al Taqqadum, Iraq, of injuries suffered when their helicopter crashed. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Task Force 49, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Spc. Dustin K. McGaugh 20, Headquarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade Derby, Kansas Died from a non-hostile gunshot wound in Balad, Iraq, on September 30, 2003 A specialist is killed by friendly fire. [Dustin K. McGaugh, 20, Derby KS]

Staff Sgt. Robert K McGee  38, Martinsville Virginia  died on 2004-06-30, he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Wash. Army Staff Sgt. McGee died June 30, in Manila, Republic of the Philippines, of non-combat related injuries.

Hospitalman Joshua McIntosh 22, A Navy corpsman assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment Kingman, Arizona Died of a non-hostile gunshot wound on June 26, 2003, in Karbala, Iraq

Brian McKeehan 37, Fort Eustis Hanging 10/12/04 AP: Soldier Just Back From Iraq Hangs Himself In Jail Police say Brian McKeehan hanged himself with a bedsheet early Saturday in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in James City, about 12 hours after being arrested on a charge of assaulting his wife at their York County home.

Cpt. Patrick M. McKenna died on April 14, 1994 over Iraq when two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by friendly fire.

Robert L. McKinley, 23, Kokomo IN 7/8/03 A private dies after collapsing from a heat stroke in mid June.

1st Sgt. Jeffrey R. McKinney, 40, of Garland, Texas, died July 11, 2007 in Adhamiyah, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incidentMcKinney, 40, of Garland, Texas, died July 11 of a gunshot wound in Adhamiyah during a non-combat related incident.  A 19-year-veteran, he was assigned to Schweinfurt, Germany. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.   Update:  On July 11, 2007, in a violent Baghdad neighborhood, Master Sgt. Jeffrey R. McKinney killed himself. He put his M-4 rifle to his neck and pulled the trigger.

Senior Airman Omar J. McKnight, 22, of Marrero, La., died Jan 17, 2009 as a result of a non-hostile
incident
in Balad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Sgt. Garrett I. McLead, 23, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division Rockport, Texas One of 14 soldiers killed when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter accidentally crashed while returning from a combat mission in Multaka, Iraq, on August 22, 2007.

Cpl. Graham M. McMahon, 22, of Corvallis, Ore., died Sept. 19, 2007 in Balad, Iraq, from a non-combat related illness. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd
Infantry Division, Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Lewis, Wash.

Lt. Col. Michael J. McMahon, 41, of Connecticut, died on Nov. 27, 2004; aircraft crash in Bamian Afghanistan.

Spc. Robert A. McNail, 30, of Meridian, Mississippi.  McNail died in Iskandariyah, Iraq, when his HMMVW struck another military vehicle. He was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 150th Combat
Engineer Battalion, 155th Brigade Combat Team, Quitman, Mississippi. Died on February 11, 2005.

Pvt. 1st Class Spence A. McNeil, 19, of Bennettsville, S.C., died on March 8, 2003; vehicle accident in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Pfc. Andre D. McNair, Jr., 20, of Fort Pierce, Fla.  The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died June 5, 2008 at Kandahar Army Airfield, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when the Kiowa helicopter they were in went down during a test flight. They were assigned to the 96th Aviation Support Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne  Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.   The incident is under investigation.

Spc. Alan E. McPeek, 20, of Tucson, Ariz. McPeek was assigned to the 16th Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Giessen, Germany. The Department of Defense announced February 5th the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Feb. 2 in Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries sustained when they came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire. [SIC] On April 4, 2007 the Army announced an ongoing unit-level investigation into the circumstances of the soldiers’ deaths and that friendly fire is suspected.

Pvt. Hamson Daniels McPherson,  21, was a Marine private from Staten Island.  As a result of bullying, he reportedly finally snapped on May 1, 2011 and set himself on fire, the Marines said. He  died 19 days later at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Pvt. Eric Jonathan McSherry, 20, was found dead in his barracks at Ft. Hood on August 4, 2008.

Sgt. 1st Class Otie J. McVey 53, 706th Transportation Company, Army Reserve Oak Hill, West Virginia McVey was medically evacuated from Baghdad, Iraq, on September 23, 2004, for treatment of a non-combat related illness. He died on November 7, 2004, in Beaver, West Virginia.

Pvt. Colman J. Meadows III, 19, of Senoia, Ga., died Dec. 16, 2008 at Forward Operating Base Ramrod, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.  The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Spc. Joshua Meeks, 21 died on November 13, 2010.  He accidentally shot himself in the head while cleaning a new 9mm pistol.  Meeks was assigned to the The Cleveland-based 252nd Military Police
Company of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Sgt. William B. Meeuwsen, 24, of Kirkland, Texas, died on November 23, 2005.  He was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, died when his

Spc. Daniel F. Mehringer, 20, of Morgantown, W.Va., died Apr. 27, 2007 in Bagram, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. His death is under investigation.  Mehringer was assigned to Division Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sgt. Benjamin E. Mejia 25 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team Salem, Massachusetts Died of non-combat related causes in Marez, Iraq, on May 31, 2006.  Mejia was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Spc. Jacob E. Melson, 22, of Wasilla, Alaska. Melson was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, Anchorage, Alaska.  4 civilians were killed along with the 8 soldiers- died near Tal Afar, Iraq, on Jan. 7, 2006 when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed.

Senior Airman Anthony Mena died  in his Albuquerque apartment, on July 21, 2009, five months after leaving the Air Force on a medical discharge. A toxicologist found eight prescription medications in his blood, including three antidepressants, a sedative, a sleeping pill and two potent painkillers.    Yet his death was no suicide, the medical examiner concluded. What killed Airman Mena was not an overdose of any one drug, but the interaction of many. He was 23.   Polypharmacy.

Sgt. Ralph Mena, 27, of Hutchinson, Kan., died May 4, 2010 in Tikrit, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to 72nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 7th Signal Brigade, 5th Signal Command, Mannheim, Germany.

Pfc. Antonio Mendez-Sanchez, 22, of Rincon, Puerto Rico. Mendez-Sanchez died in Kirkuk, Iraq when his convoy vehicle was involved in a collision. He was assigned to the 40th Transportation Company, 44th Corps Support Battalion, 593rd Corps Support Group, Fort Lewis, Washington. Died on November 11, 2005.

Sgt. Steven P. Mennemeyer, 26, of Granite City, Ill.  Declared Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown on Aug. 8, 2006 when their UH-60 Blackhawk crashed into a lake in the vicinity of Korean Village in
Rubtbah, Iraq. His remains were recovered on Aug. 9, 2006. Assigned to the 82nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance), Fort Riley, Kan.

Sgt. Chad M. Mercer, 25, of Waycross, Georgia, died June 30 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over while conducting combat operations. Mercer was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Brigade Combat Team, Fitzgerald, Georgia.

SSgt. Dennis P. Merck 38, 878th Engineer Battalion, Georgia Army National Guard Evans, Georgia. Died of a non-hostile weapon discharge in Baghdad, Iraq, on October 20, 2005.

Pfc. Scott A. Messer, 26, of Ashland, Ky., died in Ashraf, Iraq, on Feb. 2, 2006, when his HMMWV accidentally rolled over during convoy operations. Messer was assigned to the Army’s 1st Squadron,
32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sgt. Scott J. Metcalf, 36, of Framingham, Mass., died Oct. 29, 2008, in Balad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.  The incident is under investigation.

Pvt. Dylan Meyer 20, Augusta GA. Before signing off his Web page on MySpace.com on Monday, Army Pvt. Dylan Meyer typed a farewell note to the world. “Jesus, I don’t know if any of you have heard what has happened to me yet, but I just want to remind you not to be sad. Laugh, that’s what life’s about,” The next morning, Meyer was found dead in the Army barracks at Fort Gordon in Georgia. He was 20.

Sgt. Berry K. Meza, 23, of League City, Texas.  Two members of the 180th Transportation Battalion, 13th Corps Support Command, Fort Hood, Texas died December 19, 2004 in Shuaybah, Kuwait, when a vehicle struck them.

Cpt. Seth R. Michaud, 27, died on June 22, 2003,  of Hudson, Massachusetts. Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, Marines. Seth died as a result of friendly fire on the Godoria Range.

Corpswoman Jeanne “Linda” Michel, a Navy medic. “She came home last month to her husband and three kids (ages 11, 5, and 4), delighted to be back in her suburban home of Clifton Park in upstate New York. Michel, 33, would be discharged from the Navy in a few weeks, finishing her five years of duty. Two weeks after she got home, she shot and killed herself.  October 2006.

Pfc. Matthew G. Milczark 18 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division Kettle River, Minnesota who was found shot in a chapel at Camp Victory in Kuwait You see, the US Marines declared the death of Pfc Milczark a suicide, however, there is one small detail that really bothers the town and the family . . . the one gunshot that killed the marine was to the back of his head. No one who knew Pfc Milczark personally believes that he could commit suicide. His family has been pressing for information to no avail. They have contacted their local congressperson with no results and they are now concerned that the truth may never be known. What really happened to Pfc. Matthew G. Milczark?

Sgt. Brian K. Miller, 37, of Pendleton, Ind., died Aug. 2, 2008 in Abd Allah, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 293rd Infantry Regiment, 76th Brigade Combat Team, Indiana Army National Guard, Fort Wayne, Ind.  The incident is under investigation.

Airmen 1st Class Jerome D. Miller Jr., 23, of Washington, D.C. died Oct. 13, 2011 due to a non-combat related incident in Parwan province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 459th Security Forces Squadron, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.

Lt. Cmdr. Regina Mills left the safety of her car on the early morning of January 23, 2012 and stepped onto a icy Washington road to help a state trooper with a motorcyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. But a pickup truck slid out of control and into her car, which struck her and the others, killing the naval officer.  For the past two years, Mills, 44, worked as the aircraft handling officer aboard the carrier Nimitz, bringing order to a busy floating airport and meeting the demands of scores of people tending and moving dozens of aircraft. In her final act, she did what she knew best: Coordinating and directing the mission at hand by helping someone in need.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 H. Roger Mills, 59 died on October 24, 2010, four days after he and the other soldiers caught a wind gust and hit the ground hard in a parachute training exercise in Columbus, Ohio, military officials said.  Training accident.

Spc. Andre D. Mitchell, 25, of Elmont, N.Y., died July 31, 2008 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. Keman L. Mitchell, 24, Hilliard FL 5/26/03 A sergeant who had written to his father complaining of the heat drowns after jumping into a seven-foot-deep body of water.

Sgt. 1st Class Sean K. Mitchell, 35, of Monterey, Calif., died July 7, 2007 in Kidal, Mali, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related accident Mitchell was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Stuttgart, Germany.

MSG Sean M. Mocabee died by suicide on 12 November 2008.  He served his country for twenty-three years.  Served two tours in Iraq and one or two in Afghanistan plus various other places around the world.  He was a medic for eighteen of those years receiving two Bronze Stars for his service in this area.  The second Bronze Star was given posthumously.

CWO Timothy W. Moehling, 35, of Florida, died on Feb. 24, 2003; helicopter crash in Kuwait.

Capt. Anne M. Montgomery, 25, of North Dakota was killed in a helicopter crash at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, on December 13, 2011.   The incident is under investigation.

SSgt. Thaddeus S. Montgomery, 29, of West Yellowstone, Mont., died Jan. 20, 2010 at Lorengal Outpost, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.  The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Sgt. Michael J. Montpetit, 31, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died June 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. SPC Christopher T. Monroe was killed October 25, 2005.  Army Spc. Christopher T. Monroe, 19, of Kendallville, Indiana.  Monroe died in Basra, Iraq, when his 5-ton truck was involved in an automobile accident with a civilian vehicle. He was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 785th Military Police Battalion, Fraser, Michigan.  He was killed by a British citizen working for a company called Erinys as a mercenary/driver. In the investigation they put the blame on American soldiers when the driver that killed him was considered innocent.  His story.

Maj. Evan J. Mooldyk, 47, of Ranch Murieto, Calif., died Jan. 12 2011 in Khowst province, Afghanistan, in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 19th Sustainment Command, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, Belle Chasse, La

CSM Benjamin Moore, Jr., 43, of Waycross, Ga., died Apr 24, 2009 at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq, of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident.  He was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3d Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. Update: suicide.

Spc. Cody James Moore, 21, a decorated soldier from Modesto after his return to Kentucky from combat in Afghanistan. Moore was a truck driver with an Army unit deployed from Fort Hood, Texas, from September 2008 to June 2009. He was awarded the Combat Action Badge, reserved for soldiers
who personally engage the enemy. He also was honored with the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious noncombat service; the NATO Medal for North Atlantic Treaty Organization operations; and the Afghan Campaign Medal, according to an Army spokesman. Shortly after the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division’s return, the unit was reassigned to Fort Knox, Ky., and he arrived there in November. Moore was found dead in his barracks Aug. 3, 2010, and cause of death was undetermined.

Lt. Col. Joseph A. Moore, 54, of Columbus, Miss., died of natural causes May 20, 2008 in Djibouti. He was assigned to the 124th Wing, Idaho Air National Guard, Gowen Field, Idaho.

Cpl. James L. Moore, 24, of Roseburg, Oregon.  Moore died when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine
Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Died on January 26, 2005.

Pfc. Keith J. Moore 28, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division San Francisco, California.  Died of a non-combat related injury in Baghdad, Iraq, on
October 14, 2006. The incident is under investigation.

Marine Cpl. Nathaniel K. Moore, 22, of Champaign, Illinois.  Moore died when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Died
on January 26, 2005.

Willy James Moore came back from Iraq to Pascagoula following his second tour with the Marine Corps less than a month after Hurricane Katrina. On Jan. 21, the 23-year-old reservist and armored personnel carrier driver took his own life.  Eddie Moore, Willy’s father, said Willy’s case worker for post-traumatic stress disorder from the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi called to follow up for the first time on the day of Willy’s funeral.

Sgt. Omar Mora, 28, one of the authors of “The War as We Saw It,” was killed in Baghdad on September 10, 2007, when the five-ton cargo truck they were riding in overturned. Two of seven soldiers who wrote a controversial New York Times editorial about their war experiences in  Iraq were killed Sept. 10, 2007 in Baghdad.

Spc. Raymundo P. Morales, 34, of Dalton, Ga., died July 21, 2009 in Methar Lam, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained during a vehicle roll-over. He was assigned to the 148th Brigade Support Battalion, Cedartown, Ga.The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Petty Officer 3rd Class David J. Moreno 26, Naval Medical Center San Diego, 4th Marine Division Detachment Gering, Nebraska Died from a non-hostile gunshot wound in Hamishiyah, Iraq on July 17, 2003.  A petty officer third class Navy medic is accidentally shot in the face and killed while marines he is assigned to are cleaning and putting away their weapons.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Fabricio Moreno, 26, of Brooklyn, New York.  Moreno was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Manda Bay, Kenya. He was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3, Port Hueneme, California. He was deployed as part of a Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa construction team. Died Oct 14, 2005.

Cpl. Darby T. Morin, 25, of Victoria, Canada, died Aug. 22, 2009 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained during a vehicle rollover. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

Army Staff Sgt Brian L. Morris, 38, of Centreville, Michigan.  Morris died in Mosul, Iraq, when his M915A1 tractor pulling a 7,500-gallon tanker accidentally rolled over. He was assigned to the 360th Transportation Company, 68th Corps Support Battalion, 43rd Area Support Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. Died on August 21, 2005.

Petty Officer 1st Class Cherie L. Morton, 40, of Bakersfield, Calif., died April 20, 2008 in Galali, Muharraq, Bahrain.  She was assigned to Naval Security Force, Naval Support Activity Bahrain.  She was found dead in her home and the cause of death is under investigation.

Capt. Timothy J. Moshier, 25, of Albany, N.Y.  died in Baghdad Iraq on April 1, 2006, when an Apache helicopter crashed while conducting a combat air patrol.  Assigned to the Army’s 4th

Petty Officer 3rd Class David M. Mudge, 22, of Sutherlin, Ore., died Nov. 28, 2009, in a non-hostile accident aboard USS Rentz while in Port Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates.

Col. Richard A. Mulhern died on April 14, 1994 over Iraq when two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by friendly fire.

Spc. Scott J. Mullen, 22, of Tucson, Arizona.  Mullen died in Makati City, The Republic of the Philippines, of injuries sustained there from a non-combat related accident on October 13, 2005. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Lt. Col. Charles E. Munier 50, Wyoming Army National Guard Wheatland, Wyoming Died at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center on June 12, 2006, from a stroke which occurred in Kabul, Afghanistan, on June 5, 2006.

Pfc. Norman Michael Murburg III of Gainesville, Fla. He was assigned to the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg and was taking part in Special Forces training.  Murburg was missing after a 10-hour land navigation exercise ended at 11 a.m. Monday in the Hoffman Training Area, about 50 miles west of the post.  About 475 soldiers searched for him until his body was found about 8:30 a.m.  Tuesday.  Died June 12, 2008.

Maj. Edward J. Murphy, 36, of South Carolina.  Murphy died in Ghazni, Afghanistan, when the CH-47 helicopter he was on crashed. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Camp Ederle, Italy.

Staff Sgt. Stephen L. Murphy, 36, of Jaffery, N.H., died Nov. 9, 2009 as a result of a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq.  He was assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, Camp Lejeune, N.C.  The incident is under investigation.

Sgt. James P. Musack 23, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division Riverside, Iowa Died of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Samarra,
Iraq, on November 21, 2006.  Update:  “The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command determined Musack died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”  Some doubt has been publicly expressed that his death was a suicide.

Sgt. Dimitri Muscat, 21, of Aurora, Colo., died in Balad, Iraq, on Feb. 24, 2006 of non-combat related injuries sustained earlier that day in Samarra, Iraq. Muscat was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. The incident is under investigation.

SFC Brian Naseman, 36, of New Bremen, Ohio, died May 22, 2009 in Taji, Iraq of a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 108th Forward Support Company, attached to 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry, 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Sussex, Wisconsin.  The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Lance Cpl. Ryan J. Nass 21, Company E, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force Franklin, Wisconsin.  Died of a non-hostile gunshot wound at Camp Blessing, Afghanistan, on September 3, 2005.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Spc. Christine M. Ndururi, 21, of Dracut, Mass., died Nov. 6, 2007 in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, from a non-combat related illness. Her death is under investigation.  She was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. Peter C. Neesley, 28, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., died Dec. 25. 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of an undetermined cause in a non-combat environment.   He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.  The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.

Army Sgt. Julio E. Negron, 28, of Pompano Beach, Florida.  Negron died from injuries sustained in a military vehicle accident in Bayji, Iraq. He was assigned to 360th Transportation Company, 68th Corps Support Battalion, 43rd Area Support Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. Died on February 28, 2005.

Spc. Lex S. Nelson, 21, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died in Tikrit, Iraq on Dec. 12, 2005 when he fell from a guard tower.  Nelson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Spc. Hal Lee Neukirch Jr., 39, whose home of record is listed as Madison, Ala., died March 22, 2012 from a terminal illness.

Capt. Michael W. Newton, 30, of Newport News, Va., died June 11, 2011 at Faryab province, Afghanistan,of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany.

Sgt. 1st Class Tung M. Nguyen, 38, a Special Forces communications sergeant, was evacuated and pronounced dead at a combat support hospital in Baghdad. TRACY, Calif. — An Army Special Forces soldier died of a gunshot wound during combat operations on Nov. 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, Army officials said Friday. According to the U.S. Army, he may have been hit by friendly fire.

Sgt. Robert W. Nichols, 31, San Antonio, TX.  Died on January 22, 2008 due to accidental drug intoxication “lethal combination between some of the 11 Army prescribed items in his system.”

Spc. Robert Nichols, 24, shot himself on July 19, 2010, El Paso police spokesman Mike Baranyay said. Nichols was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, where he later died.
Baranyay said police went to Nichols’ northeast El Paso home after getting a call about a suicide in progress. After officers heard several gunshots from inside the home, Nichols came out and later shot himself as police looked on. A statement issued Tuesday by Fort Bliss said Nichols was a Phoenix native assigned to the Battery A, 2nd Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Regiment, 112th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, out of Fort Bliss

Spc. Jorge L. Feliz Nieve, 26, of Queens Village, N.Y., died on Aug. 28, 2008 of injuries sustained from a vehicle incident in  Mosul, Iraq   He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. 1st Class Rigoberto Nieves took the anti-malarial medication during his tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2002. Two days after coming home, he killed his wife and himself.

Cpl. Patrick R. Nixon, 21, of Gallatin, Tennessee, died on March 23, 2003 in Nasiriyah, Iraq, of possible friendly fire.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Lejeune, NC.

Spc. Marcos O. Nolasco, 34, of Chino, California, died May 18, 2004 in Baji, Iraq, as a result of an electrocution accident. Nolasco was assigned to Battery B, 1st Battalion, 33rd Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division, Bamberg, Germany.

Pfc. Gebrah P. Noonan, 26, of Watertown, Connecticut died Sept. 24, 2010 in Fallujah, Iraq, of injuries sustained Sept. 23, 2010 in a non-combat incident He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga   “Fatal shooting death” by another service member.

Sgt. William J. Normandy, 42, of East Barre, Vermont, died March 15,2004 in Camp Virginia, Iraq (north of Kuwait City), of non-combat related injuries. Sgt. Normandy was assigned to the Army National Guard, 1st Battalion, 89th Field Artillery, from Montpelier, Vermont.  Update:  Sgt. Normandy died of a heart attack while training with members of his National Guard Unit in Kuwait.

Staff Sgt. Paul B. Norris, 30, of Cullman, Ala., died in Balad, Iraq on August 16, 2007 from injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 401st Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.  Update: The Army informed the family of Kamisha Block that SSggt. Norris murdered Kamisha Block and then killed himself.
